vSphere 5.1 vMotion presents an integrated migration solution enabling live migration of an entire virtual machine across vSphere hosts without any requirement for shared s torage. This live migration feature simplifies the management and movement of virtual machines across virtual infrastructures compared to the traditional vMotion and Storage vMotion migration solutions. More importantly, the new vMotion architecture retains the proven reliability, performance and atomicity of current vMotion and Storage vMotion technologies, even at metro area network distances.
HOW TO PERFORM ENHANCED vMOTION STEP BY STEP:-
Note:- You can perform enhanced vMotion only through the vSphere Web Client 5.1 not via the traditional vSphere Client.
1. Right Click on the VM that is on ESXi5.1 Host and Click on Migrate
2. Then Select Change Host and Datastore and Click Next
3. Select the Destination ESXi 5.1 Host and Click Next
4. Select the Destination Datastore (Local/Shared)[In this Demonstration I selected the Local Datastore] and Click Next
5. Select appropriate option and Click Next
6. Review your Selections and Click on Finish
