Customizing Blueprints (vCAC) - Part 9

You create and publish a customized linked clone Windows blueprint that will be added to the
service catalog.
1. Create and Publish a Customized Windows Virtual Machine Blueprint

(a) Click the Infrastructure tab. > Select Blueprints > Blueprints > On the right side of the window, select New Blueprint> Virtual > vSphere (vCenter). > From the Copy from existing blueprint drop-down menu, select Windows 2003 Basic. > In the Name text box, type Windows 2003 Custom > Next to Blueprint options, select the Master (copyable) check box > Click the Build Information tab. > In the Customization spec text box, type win2k3-vclass. > This customization specification joins the machine to the domain.
CAUTION
You must type the customization specification name as indicated. > Click OK. > Point to but do not click the Windows Custom blueprint. > From the context menu, select Publish > Click OK. > In the Published column, verify that the blueprint is published.




2. Add a Published Custom Windows Blueprint to the Service Catalog
(a) Click the Administration tab. >  Select Catalog Management > Services. > Click the green plus sign next to Services. > In the Name text box, type Custom Windows Services > In the Description text box, type Custom Windows Services. Click Choose File. > Double-click the Windows-icon file. >From the Status drop-down menu, select Active. > Click Add. > Point to Actions on the right side of the Custom Windows Services line. > From the context menu, select Manage Catalog Items. > Click the green plus sign next to Catalog Items. > Select the Windows 2003 Custom check box. > Click Add. > Click Close. > Click Entitlements. > Click the green plus sign next to Entitlements. > In the Name text box, type Custom Windows Entitlement. > In the Description text box, type Custom Windows Entitlement. > In the Users and Groups text box, add the following users and groups.
• BG-Admin
• Support-User
• bg-user
> From the Status text box, select Active. > Click Next. > Click the green plus sign next to Entitled Services. > Select the Custom Windows Services check box. > Click OK.  > Click the green plus sign next to Entitled Catalog Items. > Select the Windows 2003 Custom check box. > Click OK. > Click the green plus sign next to Entitled Actions. > From the Type drop-down menu, select Virtual Machine. > Select all check boxes. From the Type drop-down menu, select Machine. > Select all check boxes.
You might have to scroll down to viewand check all the machine entitlements.
> Click OK. > Click Add. > Click Services.






3. Define a Custom Property for a Business Group
n this task, you add a custom property to the business group that will override the virtual machine
placement as defined by a custom property on the blueprint.
Click the Infrastructure tab. > Select Blueprints > Blueprints. > In the list of blueprints, point to the Windows 2003 Custom blueprint and select Edit. > On the Edit Blueprint page, click the Properties tab. > Click New Property to add a custom property to the blueprint. > Type the name and value of your custom property:
• Name: VMware.VirtualCenter.Folder
• Value: Predefined VM folder

> Leave Encrypted and Prompt User deselected. > Click the green check mark next to the custom property and click OK. > Select > Back to Infrastructure > Groups > Business Groups. > In the list of business groups, point to your business group and select Edit. Your business group is found in the class configuration handout. > On the Edit Business Group page, click New Property to add a custom property to the provisioning group. Type the name and value of your custom property:
• Name: VMware.VirtualCenter.Folder
•Value: predefined_VM_folder\first_initial_last_name-VMs

> Leave Encrypted and Prompt User deselected. > Click the green check mark next tothe custom property and click OK




 

4. Request a Virtual Machine with Custom Settings

Then you can check VM will be created in this QA folder not in VRM folder
 
5. Add Location Information
Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\vCAC\Server\Website\XmlData. > Right-click DataCenterLocations and select Edit. > Copy the line with Boston in it by right-clicking the line and selecting Copy. > Place the cursor at the end of the Boston line and press Enter. > Right-click and select Paste. > In the new line, replace both instancesof “Boston” with “Palo Alto.” > In the menu bar, select File -- Save > Login with Tenant Admin > Click the Infrastructure tab. > Select Blueprints > Blueprints > In the list of blueprints, point to the Windows 2003 Custom blueprint and select Edit. > Click then Display location on request check box > Click OK > Login with Fabric-admin > Click the Infrastructure tab > Select Compute Resources> Compute Resources. > Point to but do not click Cluster01. > From the context menu, select Edit. > From the Location drop-down menu, select Palo Alto.  > Click OK.
